queer flower
queer flower
by marie gordon
i wasn’t born a flower
i was born queer
missing some petals and leaves
something went wrong
kids said i was a gay girl
but i was young
i had short hair and strong arms
i had to be
i wasn’t born a daisy
one girl a rose
and some girls grow up orchids
i had no pink
i pretended to be bee
with all the guys
but i was never a bee
not a flower
the flowers shed petals soft
but I don’t shed
the bees don’t settle on me
they leave me be
my petals won’t look striking
for other bees
but the bees will tell me straight
me, queer flower
