Duke chx
by marie gordon
it was rumored
before i got here
campus cut-throats
prepped to destroy
I laughed at threats
Public school girl—
I’m not afraid
Of sharp tri delts
8 am class
stilleto heels
I get glares for
Pajama pants
Destined to be
Elliptical bitch
Working pounds skin
Each layer thin
I hated sweat
With sweaty palms
Anxiously changed
Into lacoste
We are rumored
To be bitches
We rumored that
We skirted rage
Stomping sidewalks
Knee-high leather
Duke intimidates
Not like Duke chx
Brutal orgo
Not like Duke chx
Thinning sports bras
For cocktail nights
Blue competitors’
Eyes versus hair
Height over weight
BMI drops
Little quad pools
Make heels soggy
We are stomping
On each other

my feeling of figmentation
I once had a professor call me a barbarist-that was one of the best compliments I’ve received thus far at college.
Anyway, here’s my most recent poem which may or may not accurately depict one’s state of mind when wrestling with the existential bear that is memory.

There’s a strobe light here
In my head
That speckles my nights
Into bits
A funny photo
Imagined
Brought into my brain
By smirky figments
They giggle at my brain
Embarrass
Sing their own praises
To shun me
Out of existence
Figment me
Into their wildness
Into mine
I swept up the bits
They’re garbaged
But not my figments
Still giggling
Watching a movie
They made up
Pretending its mine
Gullible
They have their popcorn
It’s my shame
Buttery to them
Delicious revels
They took their putty
To my home
They enjoyed spirits
They budged me
I can’t tell speckles
From figments
They existed me
From revels
When the beer ran out
Abandoned
Trying to get glass
From my brain

No commentsaustralian grasshopper
I actually don’t know if this grasshopper only lives in Australia. Anyways, I thought he was cool, especially because he didn’t hop away when I zoomed my macro lens on him.
